TORONTO – The Toronto Transit Commission unveiled its latest customer service initiative Monday morning, offering subway riders their own personal cars.

Brad Ross, executive director of corporate communications, and Chris Upfold, chief customer officer, explained the details of the one-day “innovative” customer service initiative in a three-minute YouTube video.

“This is a real exciting thing we are doing today,” Upfold said. “On any one of our trains there will be a single car where people can think of it as their personal space, allowing them to do anything they want.”

The pair explained the benefits of the ‘Personal Car’ while sprawled out over several seats on the subway car, eating from a bucket of fried chicken, and clipping their finger nails.

“Brad, you should consider this your home,” said Upfold. “This is a personal car, it’s your personal space. Be comfortable.”

Personal grooming is also addressed in the April Fools’ Day video.

“I can clip my nails on this personal car and no one is going to be angry with me?,” asked Ross.

“Brad, it’s a personal car, there’s no point having a personal car if you can’t do your personal grooming,” Upfold replied.

At the end of the video the pair admit to the joke, saying the program will only be offered until noon today.

“Although these behaviours are not illegal, they’re not entirely legitimate either,” Upfold said. ” Public transit is a public space and we all have to get along the best that we can.”
