The team announced Wednesday morning the re-signing of wide receiver and Kingston, Ont. native Rob Bagg.

“Rob Bagg has been a good player and he brings some leadership qualities and depth at the Canadian receiver position,” Riders general manager and head coach Chris Jones said.

“Anytime we bring a veteran back, we bring them back for a reason and Rob Bagg brings leadership to the room.”

Bagg, 33, spent 10 seasons with the Riders, prior to being cut by the team before the start of the 2018 season.

Bagg said it’s been a crazy nine weeks, but he’s ready to jump back on the field and help his teammates.

“I had a really good conversation with coach Jones at the end of last week and then again on Monday. On Monday night I talked to coach Jones and had a flight booked out here and arrived last night around 1 a.m.,” Bagg said.

“It’s moved pretty quickly, but I’m excited about the rest of the season and getting back with these guys and playing football again in the city that I love.”

He began his CFL career with the Riders in 2008, after being signed as a free agent. Bagg won a Grey Cup with the Riders in 2013 and has amassed 4,705 yards, 24 touchdowns and 364 catches in 122 regular-season games.

The transaction comes just days after the release of wide receiver Duron Carter.

As to when Bagg will suit up, there’s no clarity at his time.

“There is no timetable. We’ve got two very good young players and we’ll see exactly where we are.”

It wasn’t the only move made by the Riders on Wednesday, as they also added international defensive back Will Blackmon and released quarterback Devin Gardner, defensive back Shawun Lurry, defensive lineman Tresor Mafuta and running back Trent Richardson.
