Officers found the 57-year-old male driver, who told them he was able to get out of the car, but his wife, Valerie Morris, was unaccounted for.

Morris is described as Caucasian, five-foot-two and 113 pounds with auburn hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing light-coloured Capri pants, a black sun visor, bright red jacket and pink shirt.

Heavy rains in the region caused more than a dozen slides along the stretch of highway.

The highway between Hat Creek and Lillooet remained closed Monday morning as crews continued digging out mud and debris from the highway.

Highways 1 and 97 have re-opened near Clinton and Cache Creek but it could be days until crews clear Highway 99.

On Sunday, six people were evacuated from a home near Ashcroft due to a landslide triggered by wet weather.
