Two Fredericton police officers, one local musician and an unidentified woman are among the four people who were killed in a shooting in the city Friday morning.

The Fredericton Police Force says they have one suspect in custody and that the suspect is being treated for serious injuries.

Here is a timeline of how the events unfolded Friday morning (all times AT):

  • 7:47 a.m.: The Fredericton Police Force takes to Twitter asking people to avoid the area of Brookside Drive due to an ongoing incident.
  • 7:53 a.m.: Fredericton police impose a lockdown for those living on Brookside Drive.
  • 8:17 a.m.: Fredericton police confirm they are investigating a shooting with multiple fatalities. Police asked residents to avoid the area of Brookside Drive between Main and Ring Road.
  • 8:31 a.m.: Police say that four people have died as a result of the shooting, and ask residents to continue avoiding the area of Brookside Drive between Main and Ring roads.

  • 9:25 a.m.: Fredericton police ask the public to not post information about the position or activities of police or first responders. Police added that the incident remains active.
  • 9:45 a.m.: Police confirm that a suspect was taken into custody, but continued to ask the public to avoid the Brookside area for “the foreseeable future.”
  • 9:49 a.m. New Brunswick Premier Brian Gallant sends condolences to the victims and their families, while urging residents to follow police instructions.

  • 10:12 a.m. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sends a tweet saying his heart goes out to everyone affected by the shooting and that they’re watching the situation closely.

  • 10:28 a.m.: Police confirm that two of the victims of the shooting were Fredericton police officers. Their names have not been released, and police asked for the public to “appreciate this is a difficult time for their families and our colleagues.”

  • 11:04 a.m.: Police lift the lockdown imposed on Brookside Drive between Main and Ring roads, confirming that there is no further threat to the public.
  • 11:06 a.m.: Horizon Health tweets that their Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital is treating multiple shooting victims.

  • 11:23 a.m.: Police tweet that the suspect in custody is being treated for serious injuries.
  • 11:43 a.m.: Mayor Mike O’Brien sends a tweet saying “our hearts are broken by the murder of our two brave police officers,” adding that now is a time for shock and grief.

  • Police identify the two officers who died as 45-year-old Const. Robb Costello, a 20-year veteran of the force, and 43-year-old Const. Sara Burns, who joined the force two years ago.

  • August 11: Sean Callahan identifies his cousin Donnie Robichaud as one of the two civilians killed in Friday’s mass shooting. Callahan says his cousin was a father of three.
