Teen charged with 2nd-degree murder after attack on northern Alberta Métis Settlement

A 17-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder after an assault on the Buffalo Lake Métis Settlement earlier this week.

At around 10 p.m. Tuesday, RCMP said they were called to a “serious assault with a weapon” at a home on the settlement northeast of Edmonton.

A 22-year-old man was taken to hospital in Boyle, RCMP said in a media release on Thursday. He died early Wednesday morning. The victim has been identified by the RCMP as Brandon Ladouceur.

An autopsy confirmed Ladouceur’s death was a homicide, but police did not say how he died.

A 17-year-old was taken into custody at the scene. He has since been charged with second-degree murder. His name cannot be released as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The youth will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Aug. 16.

The Buffalo Lake Métis Settlement is located about 150 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
