Three people, including a five-year-old child, were killed in what police believe was a head-on crash in central Alberta on Monday night. The crash also left another child in hospital.
The collision happened just south of Sylvan Lake, on Highway 781 near Township Road 382 at around 9:20 p.m. Monday.
Sylvan Lake RCMP said they believe a truck and an SUV collided head-on on Highway 781.
The 30-year-old man driving the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person in the vehicle, RCMP said.
The 39-year-old man driving the SUV was also killed, along with a five-year-old passenger.
A seven-year-old passenger in the SUV was taken by STARS Air Ambulance to hospital in Edmonton where he remains in stable condition, RCMP said Tuesday morning.
The RCMP said charges will not be laid.
It’s been a deadly few days on Alberta roads. Early Tuesday morning, three adults were killed in a head-on crash on Highway 22 west of Calgary. One other adult was taken to hospital in Calgary with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
On Sunday night, two children were killed after a tractor towing a flat-deck trailer rolled near Taber. Three other people, including two youth, were taken to hospital after police said the trailer lost control coming down a hill. Eight people were involved in the rollover.
