Two men arrested, loaded handgun seized after alleged shooting in south Ottawa

Police have arrested two men and seized a handgun after an alleged shooting that occurred in Herongate on Saturday.

Police say that at approximately 10 a.m., officers were called to the south end for a man who was reportedly firing shots into a residence on Heatherington Road.

The man fled the scene in a vehicle before officers arrived, police say. Upon arrival, officers found shell casings and numerous bullet holes in the windows and walls of a residential unit. Police say no one was injured in the incident.

The next morning, at approximately 1 a.m., officers located what they believed was the vehicle involved in the shooting. Police say a search of the vehicle revealed a loaded handgun and two men were arrested.

Farah Qualib, 30, of Ottawa, and Mohamed Mohamed, 30, of Ottawa, have both been charged with several weapons offences and appeared in court on Monday.
