Moose Beach in Orillia issued swim advisory ahead of long weekend

Moose Beach in Orillia has been issued a swim advisory after a “higher than normal” bacteria count was recorded in the water.

According to a release issued Friday, the city received notice from the Simcoe Muskoka Distict Health Unit (SMDHU) that a swim advisory had been issued due to the elevated bacteria count.

A swim advisory is issued by the SMDHU when bacteria levels exceed the level officials deem acceptable.

While an advisory is not a beach closure, the city urges anyone who chooses to swim to avoid ducking their head or swallowing water.

Residents are also reminded that lifeguards are off-duty during a swim advisory, and swimmers are cautioned to swim at their own risk.

City officials are reminding residents that Couchiching Beach also remains under a swim advisory at this time.
