The province’s Special Investigations Unit has issued a statement, as it examines the death of a 65-year-old man in a Hamilton parking garage.

The SIU, based on preliminary information, says 911 received a call at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday night, regarding a man in distress in the above-ground lot at Juravinski Hospital on Concession Street.

Upon arrival, the agency says a Hamilton police officer started helping a medical professional who was providing first aid to the man, who was pronounced dead a short time later.

Three investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to the incident.

The SIU adds that a post-mortem will take place on Friday in Hamilton.

The SIU invokes its mandate whenever police are involved and someone has been seriously injured, dies or alleges sexual assault. The unit conducts independent investigations to determine whether a criminal offence took place.
