Storms leave thousands without power across Quebec

Early morning storms across Quebec on Tuesday have delivered much-needed rain, but have also left thousands in the dark.

As of 8 a.m., Hydro-Québec was reporting that 30,814 customers were without power.

The majority of the outages were in the Montérégie region, where more than 20,000 clients were affected.

A Hydro-Quebec spokesperson said the high number of outages around the Chambly area was due to protective equipment being activated. However, power was quickly restored.

However, officials say fallen branches and lightning strikes on transformers have created pockets of storm-related outages.

Crews are on the ground are working to restore electricity in the affected regions.

In Montreal, close to 5,000 homes were without power Tuesday morning.

Heavy rains also resulted in water accumulation in certain areas of the city and made for tricky driving.
