St. Andrews man fires shots, Selkirk RCMP officers fall back

No one was hurt after a man shot a gun at RCMP officers in St. Andrews, Man. this past weekend.

Selkirk RCMP were sent to a rural house in the RM of St. Andrews Saturday at about 9:50 p.m. after someone dialed 911 and hung up. When police arrived, a man left the house, shouting at police to leave his property.

The man then went back into the house, grabbed a firearm and fired off one shot, said RCMP.

No one was hit and RCMP were able to retreat to a safer area. The man went back into home and shot his gun off a few more times in the early morning on Sunday.

RCMP gathered up their Emergency Response and the Manitoba East District Containment teams and arrested the man without any further problems. A woman inside the house was not hurt.

Several guns were found inside the house.

Sven Barca, 56, is facing charges of assault, reckless discharge of a firearm, three counts of pointing a firearm, and careless use and storage of a firearm. He was taken into custody where he remains.

The investigation continues by the RCMP Major Crime Services Unit, the Forensic Identification Services Unit, and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team.
