Edmonton fire causes propane tank explosion

An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire at a motel in Edmonton’s Forest Heights neighbourhood Thursday night.

The blaze broke out at the Patricia Motel shortly after 11 p.m. at 101 Avenue and 79 Street.

Edmonton Fire Rescue said there was a shed on the property with a pile of “junk” in it that caught fire.

The flames spread quickly, igniting several trees and causing a propane tank to explode, sending debris flying.

Fire officials said no one was injured despite the explosion.
