Barrie police seeking to identify 2 men accused of label fraud

Barrie police are seeking the public’s help in identifying two men wanted for label fraud.

According to police, officers were called to the Canadian Tire on Bayfield Street in the city after the store reported an alleged vacuum label fraud.

Police say surveillance footage shows two men entered the store on May 22, and again on June 4.

According to police, the first man was caught on camera entering the store before heading to the vacuum aisle. Officers say the suspect can be seen on video selecting a Dyson vacuum valued at $799.99. Police say he removed it from the shelf and applied a sticker bar code on the box before leaving the store.

A short while later, surveillance footage showed the second suspect entering the store. Police say the man selected the incorrectly labelled vacuum, and took the item to cash where it was scanned by a cashier. Police say the man used distraction techniques to prevent the cashier from reviewing the item further.

Police say the man made off with the vacuum for next to nothing.

Investigators say inventory numbers suggest that this type of label fraud has been going on for some time, however, a full review of the surveillance video will determine the exact number of items taken.

Police are now looking to identify the two suspects.

Officers have described the first suspect as a man between 45 and 55 years old, with a thin build and short brown and grey hair. He was seen wearing a black jacket, a black shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes.
