Woodstock police and Oxford County OPP have released the numbers for their “Operation Zero” joint traffic initiative, with 125 tickets issued over two days.
Police used the initiative to promote their Vision Zero approach on roadways, conducting a two-day traffic crackdown from Thursday, June 21 to Friday, June 22.
Speeding offences posed the most trouble on roadways, with police issuing 88 speeding tickets.
In addition, police issued eight tickets for no seat belts, eight for distracted driving, and say that 21 other Highway Traffic Act violations were also committed.
According to police, six of the distracted driving tickets were issued to drivers using cell phones, and all were stopped right in front of the Woodstock Police Service Headquarters.
Police add the joint forces initiative will be conducted on a quarterly basis, with another two-day blitz scheduled in the fall.
