A 30-year-old cyclist is dead after being hit by a truck in Montreal’s Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie borough.
It happened around 7:30am Monday while the cyclist and truck were both travelling east on Saint-Zotique Street.
Witnesses report that the cyclist made a southbound turn onto 19th Avenue when the collision occurred.
Montreal police have not released any more information about the victim who was pronounced dead on the scene.
The 52-year-old male truck driver was taken to hospital and treated for shock.
An investigation is underway.
Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante said while there is an unprotected bike path at the location, the city could consider putting in more safety measures.
“We will see the complete report and if there are measures we can put in place to make it safe, we will do it,” she said.
“I am asking cyclists, drivers and truck drivers to be careful.”
