Calgary to host Grey Cup in 2019

Calgary will be the host city of the Grey Cup in 2019.

“The 107th Grey Cup is going to be held here in the beautiful city of Calgary,” said CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie said Wednesday morning.

The game will be played on Nov. 24, 2019, and will mark the first time Calgary has hosted the Grey Cup in a decade, the CFL said in a press release Wednesday.

Calgary hosted in 2009, 2000, 1993 and 1975, the release said.

John Hufnagel, president and general manager of the Calgary Stampeders said Calgary has a tradition of hosting world-class events.

“I know that hosting the 2019 Grey Cup will only enhance the well-deserved reputation,” he said. “We are very grateful for this opportunity and we look forward to welcoming CFL fans from across Canada to our house in 2019.”

Culture and Tourism Minister Ricardo Miranda said the province will be investing $1.5 million to help with the game and festivities.

The Grey Cup will also feature a week-long festival with a variety of programming for all ages, the press release said.

Fans who wish to purchase Stampeders season tickets for the 2018 season will also have the option of buying a Grey Cup seat for 2019 in advance of the general public, the release added.
