History
“Vanderhoof” — it’s Dutch for “the farm.”
And that’s one activity it was known for in the early years of its development, when industries included cattle ranching and logging.
It would be formally founded by Herbert Vanderhoof who looked to attract settlers to the area on behalf of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railroad.
He promised farmland, businesses, homes, electricity and plumbing. And so they came, making it a hub of logging and ranching, and opening opportunities for canoeists, anglers and skiers.
