Peel Regional Police say a 41-year-old man has been charged after two people were shot inside a Brampton home Thursday evening.
Officers and paramedics were called to Pergola Way, south of Mavis Road and Steeles Avenue West, at around 8:30 p.m.
Const. Bancroft Wright told reporters a male suspect entered the home where three adults and two children were inside at the time. Police said a 73-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman were shot. Both victims were taken to a Toronto trauma centre.
Wright said the people inside the home are family members.
“Investigators at this time believe that it is an isolated incident as the suspect is known to one of the parties in the residence,” Wright said.
Police said early Friday morning that the suspect was arrested without incident in Brampton near Hurontario Street and Ray Lawson Boulevard.
Gurpreet Araich was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault and multiple firearms-related offences. He was scheduled to appear in a Brampton court on Friday for a bail hearing.
