Man dies in Meadow Lake RCMP custody

The Moose Jaw Police Service was called in to investigate the circumstances of an in-custody death in Meadow Lake, Sask.

Meadow Lake RCMP said the man was found unresponsive in a cell just before 6 a.m. Tuesday.

The 25-year-old Meadow Lake man was declared dead at the detachment by paramedics. Police are not releasing his name at this time.

RCMP said they have called in the Moose Jaw Police Service to conduct the independent external investigation as per internal policy.

The Ministry of Justice has been asked to appoint an independent observer.

RCMP said they can release no further details at this time due to the external investigation.
