The fire started in the grocery store on the first floor of the building, but the source of the fire was unclear.

“There was one apartment residence unit on the second floor that was evacuated as a precaution,” said Montreal firefighters spokesperson John Primiani.

“The male resident should be able to return into his home [Monday] morning as there was no damage to the apartment.”

The fire was put out by 5:20 a.m. and Montreal firefighters estimate it caused about $75,000 in damage to the grocery store.
