Deerfoot Trail shut down for second time in as many days

The northbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail had to be shut down at 32 Avenue N.E. Sunday as emergency crews dealt with two separate collisions.

The first incident happened at about 1:15 p.m. north of McKnight Boulevard N.E.

Paramedics said four vehicles were involved, including a gravel truck.

A total of 10 people were involved in the crash. Two drivers, a man in his 60s and a man in his 20s, were taken to hospital in serious condition but their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

EMS said the other eight people, including two children, were assessed on scene but did not need to be taken to hospital.

Shortly afterwards, emergency crews were called to another multi-vehicle collision in the same area near 32 Avenue N.E.

Police said the two incidents are unrelated and EMS said they weren’t aware of any serious injuries at that collision.

The roadway was closed for most of the afternoon but reopened just before 6:00 p.m.

It was the second time in as many days that the major roadway was closed.
