Halifax Regional Police (HRP) say the disappearance of a 40-year-old woman is being treated as suspicious.

Karen Lee MacKenzie was last seen on Feb. 25 at 95 Highfield Park Drive in Dartmouth, which is the address of an apartment building.

She was reported missing to police on March 3.

Police say investigators are treating her disappearance as suspicious.

“Through the course of the investigation, investigators determined a number of factors that have led them to believe the disappearance is suspicious,” said Cindy Bayers, a spokesperson with HRP.

Bayers says MacKenzie has not been seen or heard from since Feb. 25. She would not say whether MacKenzie’s bank accounts or phone has been accessed since her disappearance.

“I think as time goes on with missing persons, we do get more and more concerned about the disappearance,” Bayers said.

On Monday, there was a police presence at the apartment building and a forensic identification unit vehicle on scene. Police confirm police tape was also used to secure an area around garbage bins in the building’s parking lot.

MacKenzie is described as a white woman, five-feet-five-inches tall, 141 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. It’s believed she was wearing a green jacket and a matching backpack when she was last seen.

Anyone with information is asked to call Halifax Regional Police at 902-490-5020 or submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
