Winnipeg police have charged a 63-year-old woman in relation to a collision that left a woman pinned under an SUV on May 31, 2017.
A group of people had to move the SUV off the woman at St. Mary’s Road and Fermor Avenue.
Janice Naccarato spent two months following the crash in a coma. She was moved into a rehabilitation and physiotherapy facility in September. She is now back at home.
Security footage shows what happened that day. Just after 7 a.m., Naccarato was seen biking down the sidewalk towards the intersection. Just seconds later, an SUV could be seen driving through the intersection, almost hitting a van before slamming into a car.

The SUV then flipped onto its side pinning the cyclist who was biking across the intersection.
On Monday Winnipeg police have charged a 63-year-old woman with Drive Dangerous Cause Bodily Harm.

Winnipeg police tell Global News the woman charged was driving the SUV. Investigators believe she drove through a red light at Fermor Ave. while driving south on St. Mary’s Rd.
“This crash, officers believed was preventable,” Const. Tammy Skrabek said, adding officers continued to work on this case despite charges not being laid shortly after the collision. “Investigators are extremely involved and will not give up… it’s an awful waiting period for (victim’s) family.”
Naccarato’s son Jayce posted on Facebook that the family was “shocked and surprised” to hear the news, but that they are ready to move ahead.
“There’s not much to say other than a big thank you to everyone again who have supported us through this time – Mom has been exponentially surpassing medical expectations given the nature of an injury like this with regards to quality of life,” he wrote.
The driver was arrested and released on a promise to appear.
