Toronto teen charged with attempted murder in East York stabbing

Toronto police say a 17-year-old is facing an attempted murder charge after a 16-year-old was repeatedly stabbed in East York on Wednesday.

Police said the teen, who cannot be named because of his age, was arrested that day. A second suspect remains outstanding.

Officers were called to the Coxwell and Cosburn avenues area, near East York Collegiate Institute, at around 3:15 p.m.

Police said two boys stabbed the victim and ran off when witnesses tried to intervene.

The teen was taken to a trauma centre with serious injuries.

Toronto District School Board spokesperson Ryan Bird confirmed to Global News on Wednesday the victim was a student of East York Collegiate Institute.
