Students in the United States have been confronting lawmakers and demanding change after losing 17 classmates and teachers in a Florida school shooting.

Some say these students are reminiscent of some very brave young women from Montreal who stood up and demanded gun control after the École Polytechnique massacre 28 years ago.

One of those students, Heidi Rathjen, is still fighting to ban assault weapons in Canada.

Global News Montreal Senior Anchor Jamie Orchard spoke to Rathjen about her reaction to the student protests in the U.S.

Former Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce borough mayor Russell Copeman is taking on a new role — one that’s geared at helping young anglophones feel more grounded in Quebec.

Copeman has been named director of the 2018 Bishop’s forum, a week-long civic leadership conference for young anglos.

Jamie Orchard sat down with Copeman to learn more about the forum and to discuss the latest Leger poll that suggest many young Anglophones want to leave the province.

An online petition to keep Camillien-Houde Way open to cars has gathered more than 20,000 signatures.

Opposition arose after the Plante administration announced a pilot project to block cars from driving over the mountain in the spring and summer.

Since then, a second petition sprang up supporting the pilot project, gathering over 5,000 signatures.
