It was Special Olympics night at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Thursday for the Peterborough Petes game against the Hamilton Bulldogs. The night was dedicated to raising money for the Special Olympics, the world’s largest sports organization for those with intellectual disabilities.
The night kicked off with a special puck drop with Peterborough police inspector, Dan Smith and two Special Olympics athletes.
“The Special Olympics has been the charity of choice for the OACP (Ontario Association of Chief of Police) for many many years and the Peterborough Police Service and Special Olympics has had a wonderful relationship over the years with community fundraising,” said Smith.
The total amount raised was $2,027 by collecting money in the stands, lobby and suites.

The next special Olympics fundraiser game is the NHL Alumni Benefit Tour set on Dec. 9. at the Memorial Centre which will include former NHLers including Wendel Clark, Curtis Joseph, Tiger Williams, Theo Fleury and many more.
The fun evening will provide entertainment for fans of all ages and give them an opportunity to see a lighter side of hockey greats while raising money for a great cause. For more information, you can visit benefithockey.com
