Cameron Mathison talks about chemistry

TORONTO – Cameron Mathison says he understands why soap opera stars often fall for each other.

“Either that or you really start to detest each other,” said Mathison, who spent 14 years playing Ryan Lavery on All My Children before it was cancelled in 2011.

“I’ve known my love interest Rebecca Budig longer than I’ve known my wife,” he explained during an appearance Thursday on Global’s The Morning Show. “We’re super close. It’s ridiculous how close you get and how quickly it could probably go to the romantic side.”

Mathison and his wife of 10 years, model Vanessa Arevalo, are parents to Lucas, 9, and Leila, 6.

Born in Sarnia, Ont., Mathison attended high school near Toronto and then pursued a civil engineering degree at Montreal’s McGill University. It was there, during the summer before his last year, that someone suggested he try modelling.

“I did some commercials and one thing led to another,” he recalled. “I started taking acting classes.”

Mathison just wrapped the ABC Family movie Home Again in Toronto with former 90210 star Jennie Garth.

“We had a great time. She’s hysterical,” he said. “I just love to watch her work because she’s so funny and spontaneous.”
