The owner of a rental home in Cardston, Alta., says an unwanted tenant is no longer living in a makeshift house on his driveway.

Last week, Ivan Negrych told Global News he’d been unable to remove Robert Cox from his property and was preparing to take his unwanted tenant to court.

But as of Monday afternoon, Cox was no longer taking up residence on the driveway.

“Some people came to move him today, so they hooked up the trailer and moved him and pulled him out around 12:30 this afternoon,” Negrych said when reached by phone on Monday.

He said Cox had signage on the driveway over the weekend that indicated he was in need of help.

According to Negrych, the makeshift shelter was towed away from the house by an unknown person and was believed to be headed for the Magrath, Alta., area.

The embattled landlord was planning to take his unwanted tenant to court this week and says he still plans to attend the scheduled hearing in Lethbridge to figure out his next steps going forward.

“We’re going to go to court [Tuesday] and just see what the system tells us to do and we’ll follow what the court order says,” Negrych said.

“As far as we’re concerned, he’s gone off our property. I’ve cleaned up the mess he left behind, and we go on with life.”

Negrych said he does not expect Cox to attend Tuesday’s court appearance given the timing of his departure.
