Elsewhere, a 20-year-old man has been charged with racing and careless driving after crashing his car on County Road 21 near County Road 7 in the Township of Centre Wellington, north of Guelph.

OPP said an officer had caught the driver on radar at 152 km/h in an 80 km/h zone just seconds before the car smashed into a utility pole.

On top of the charges, police suspended Joshua Lloyd’s license for seven days and seized his vehicle.

An OPP spokesperson said there were no serious injuries in either crash, but said it’s extremely concerning to see this kind of behaviour on the road.

“They are lucky they weren’t seriously injured and even luckier that they didn’t seriously injure anybody else,” said Const. Marylou Schwindt. “With the amount of education we have out there and the attention to these problems, it’s surprising it’s still continuing, and it’s disappointing that it’s still continuing.”

Police are reminding drivers to call 911 and report those who are impaired behind the wheel.
