A Peterborough family was displaced following a fire at a Water Street apartment complex early Tuesday morning.

Just before 1 a.m., Peterborough Fire Services received a 911 call from an occupant of the three-storey residence informing them about a fire.

“The occupants had been awoken by a working smoke detector sounding in a third-floor apartment,” stated Platoon Chief Rolf Erdmann.

Erdmann said fire crews discovered smoke billowing from a third-floor window and extinguished the “stubborn” fire and searched all floors to ensure everyone had left the building. There were no injuries.

Members of the Peterborough City-County Disaster Trust Fund were on scene to assist displaced residents including the family of four.
