Nova Scotia woman charged with animal cruelty

A Nova Scotia woman is facing charges of animal cruelty following an investigation by the Nova Scotia SPCA and RCMP.

In September, SPCA officers received a complaint from the public regarding abuse to dogs. Following an investigation, a small-breed dog was seized from a home on Main Street in Yarmouth on Oct. 2.

Chief Inspector Jo-Anne Landsburg says the dog was assessed, treated and has been placed for adoption.

Nicole Jacquard, 41, has been charged with causing animals to be in distress contrary to the Animal Protection Act and willfully permitting unnecessary pain, suffering or injury to an animal.

She is scheduled to appear in Yarmouth Provincial Court on Dec. 18.
