1st-degree murder charges laid after Calgary man’s body found in burning vehicle north of Drumheller

A 20-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a 36-year-old Calgary man whose body was discovered in a burning vehicle in a rural area north of Drumheller, Alta. earlier this month.

On Friday evening, the RCMP identified the victim as Fazal Rehman, and said he also went by the name Afzad Rehman.

At around 8 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 16, police were called to respond to a burning vehicle in a rural area south of the village of Morrin. Mounties said an autopsy on the body was completed in Calgary on Oct. 19.

Police said Dylan Donald Howard, of Munson, Alta., was arrested “without incident” in Airdrie on Thursday and that he has since been charged with first-degree murder in Rehman’s death.

He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Drumheller on Friday, Nov. 10.

Morrin is located about 25 kilometres north of Drumheller and 160 kilometres northeast of Calgary.
