A Metro Vancouver man has been charged with animal cruelty for allegedly killing a dog and injuring another.
Stuart Alexander Blackie is facing two charges of causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury, and two charges of killing or injuring an animal.
The incident took place in Surrey on Valentine’s Day earlier this year, but wasn’t reported until a few days later according to BC SPCA chief prevention enforcement officer Marcie Moriarty.
Court records also show Blackie was charged with two counts of uttering threats on two separate occasions within a week of the animal attacks.

Moriarty said the animals’ conditions were severe enough that the SPCA is recommending that Blackie never be permitted to have access to, own, or or be in the custody of animals in the future.
“And I think in this particular case, the nature of the violence and the circumstances, absolutely, we would be recommending some kind of incarceration period.”
Moriarty said the SPCA isn’t able to provide further details because the case is before the courts.
Blackie is set to appear in Surrey Provincial Court on Friday.
