Like most people, Katie Davidson has a bucket list: hers includes global travel, sampling the native foods of countries around the world, and seeing live shows by legendary performers like Beyoncé.
The Lindsay native, now living in Ottawa, has gotten a head start by visiting Portugal and Iceland, and also recently took in a Dixie Chicks concert.
But unlike most people, Davidson does not have a lot of time to complete her bucket list.
Nine days before her 2015 wedding, Davidson was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, which is controllable but incurable. The cancer has since spread deep in her bones but not in any internal organs thus far.
Since the diagnosis, her life has been a stream of operations, scans and medications, and expenses are mounting.
Julie O’Neil, a friend of Davidson’s since kindergarten, came up with a plan to help. O’Neil’s mother-in-law Sandy had been planning an event to celebrate women, featuring local female entrepreneurs with home-based businesses.
The “Celebration of Being a Woman” event takes place this Sunday from 12 to 4 p.m. at Devil’s Elbow Ski Area in Bethany, Ont.
The event will include numerous businesses geared towards women, including makeup, aesthetics, fitness and financial services.
