Assault, weapon charges in 3 separate Prince Albert incidents

A man has been charged with spitting on a Prince Albert police officer and two other men are facing weapon-related charges in three separate incidents over the long weekend.

The spitting incident happened late Friday evening when patrol officers were called to a home in the 600-block of 28 Street West for an unknown 911 call.

While on their way, officers were told the man causing problems at the home had left on foot.

He was located a short time later in the area and arrested for public intoxication.

Police said the 33-year-old man became uncooperative with officers after being handcuffed and eventually spat on an officer.

He is charged with assaulting a police officer.

The first weapon-related charge happened early Saturday afternoon when officers were called to the 100-block of 11th Street East.

Someone reported a man was riding their stolen bicycle and saw him enter a home.

When officers arrived, they knocked on the back door.

The man fled from the front of the home and officers caught him after a brief foot chase.

A search of his back pack turned up a sawed-off .22-calibre rifle, ammunition, a BB gun and a knife.

The 23-year-old man is facing several firearms-related charges along with breach of a court order.

Then late Monday evening, officers were patrolling the area of the 700-block of 13 Street West when they spotted a man riding a bike who was wanted on outstanding warrants.

The 19-year-old was arrested and a search turned up a concealed machete.

Officers then searched a back pack and found three hunting rifle scopes, a rifle magazine and ammunition.

He is charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

All three are scheduled to appear Tuesday in Prince Albert provincial court.

Prince Albert police said overall, they responded to 333 service calls during the Thanksgiving long weekend, with the top two calls being for intoxicated people and disturbances.
