According to investigators, a dump truck travelling behind the vehicle “attempted to avoid striking the rear of the car” by entering the oncoming lane of traffic, where it was struck by an eastbound pick-up truck.
The pick-up truck rolled, coming to rest in the ditch.
The driver of the pick-up truck, a 72-year-old man from Cochrane, died at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
The crash happened about 20 kilometres northwest of Calgary.
