Man in critical condition after Montreal car-surfing incident

A 22-year-old man is in critical but stable condition in hospital after a car-surfing incident in Montreal overnight.

According to police, it happened in a parking lot on Mount Royal, at around 1:45 a.m. on Saturday.

Witnesses told police the man was car surfing when a maneuver by the driver caused him to fall.

Police spokesperson Daniel Lacoursière said the victim suffered serious head injuries as a result.

The driver of the vehicle — an 18-year-old man — was arrested and detained for questioning.

He was released late Saturday afternoon, after a promise to appear in Quebec criminal court in a month’s time.

He faces charges of dangerous driving causing bodily harm and causing bodily harm by criminal negligence.
