Spike belt used to stop two N.S. teens during police pursuit

Two Nova Scotia teenagers have been arrested after leading police on a pursuit that ended with the use of a spike belt.

The incident began on Thursday evening when Colchester District RCMP responded to a complaint of a stolen camper trailer found on a remote logging road near Great Village.

While on scene, two men arrived in a truck.

The two RCMP officers tried to speak to the men, but police say they refused to co-ooperate. While one officer was trying to arrest the truck’s driver, the officer was dragged by the vehicle for a short distance.

According to RCMP, the officer was nearly pinned between the truck and police vehicle.

The two suspects fled the area and were later located by police in the Bass River area.

At that point, officers used a spike belt near Exit 19 on Highway 104 and were able to stop the truck and arrest the two men.

A 19-year-old man from Truro Heights and an 18-year-old man from Great Village were taken into custody.

Police say charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
