Workers at Canada Post are giving the thumbs-up to a new contract, casting their ballots overwhelmingly to approve a tentative agreement after more than two years of labour strife.
The union representing some 55,000 Canada Post employees says they voted more than 85 per cent in favour of the five-year deal, which includes wage increases of 6.5 per cent and three per cent in the first two years.
The union says about 86 per cent of rural and suburban mail carriers voted to accept the contract, and 89 per cent of urban workers gave it the green light.

Canada Post and the union have long sparred over wages and structural changes to the postal service, with workers taking to the picket line on multiple occasions throughout the bargaining process.
About 60 per cent of the union board endorsed the proposed collective agreement, saying it ensures job security, but the union’s president asked members to reject it, arguing it rolls back rights and compensation.
In a statement, Canada Post CEO Doug Ettinger says he’s pleased with the outcome and that the new deal offers stability and a path to “restore confidence in the postal system.”
I’m too curious…and what is the projected quarterly financial loss growing to as a result of this deal?
Should be more like, no raises until the company can break even. The agreement would be get back to work and we will try and keep as many of your jobs as possible and you may get the option of a lay off or taking on weekend and evening work.
This is truly one of those just happy to have a job situations, and good luck finding another job if your 10% raises wasn’t enough (I work as a professional and see 0-2% raises a year with a University degree in engineering)
Still don’t want community mailboxes.
After two years of postal uncertainty it is far too late to restore confidence in our postal service! Companies and individuals have moved on…
Who cares.. I don’t use Canada post for anything anymore and I never will.. Too little too late in my opinion. We do not need them.. This has got to be the dumbest thing I have read why are we not rid of these jokers already.
My mailman doesn’t deliver many of the items that show up on my app …time to give up and shut down Canada post..
Imagine losing a billion annually, yet still giving bonuses to management and increasing staff plus wage increases.
Liberal ideology budgets balance themselves and its Russia,Trump and conservatives fault.
Canadian media is treasonous and these so called reporters should stick to writing fiction articles that never get published. Sadly elbozos updaAsk are gullible and live under a rock.
Only in a left wing LIB govt would a corporation that loses over $1 Billion of taxpayers money still be in business without radical reform and massive staff reductions! Instead they get 6.5% raise!
Does this mean they will actually work for our taxpayer money now??
The CBA with these guys is an abomination.
CPost is losing 100s of millions of dollars a year, mail volumes have dropped dramatically, they refuse any efficiency or automation, and they literally have clauses where even due to permanent drops is mail volume they can layoffs workers.
We are paying them to actually stand around or not work with unconditional employment for life.
Ludicrous!
wouldnt be surprised if this is the last contract that ever gets signed.
You would have to be an absolute idiot (or a literal communist union leader) to vote against this. 6.5% followed by 3%?
Their union leader needs to be replaced for someone with a brain.
Them turning it down would have been suicide. Already Canadians have zero trust in CP. The 15% who voted against the contract are idiots. Already CP is 200 million in the red.
