Special Air Quality Statement
Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for the Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Regina, Melfort, Martensville, Outlook, Humboldt, Moose Jaw Estevan, Moosomin, Carlyle, Southend and Fort Qu’Appelle areas for elevated pollution levels expected or occurring.
Forest fire smoke continues over portions of central and southeastern Saskatchewan Thursday afternoon with the smoke expected to start lifting northward Thursday night as southerly winds strengthen, and move out of southern Saskatchewan during the day on Friday.
Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath.

Summer 2017 – Warm and Dry
As expected, meteorologist summer 2017 (June, July and August) was warmer than normal for Saskatoon, by about half a degree.
The biggest departure from average was during the day, with daytime highs averaging out 1.4 degrees above normal.
Morning lows were actually about 0.4 degrees cooler than normal when averaged throughout the 92 day period.
So far in 2017, Saskatoon has seen more days above 30 degrees than normal, with 14 days so far this year, but more will be added later this week.
We were also way drier than normal with less than half of our average precipitation falling throughout the period.
Altogether there was 81.6 millimetres of rain reported at the Saskatoon airport, which was 48 per cent of our normal of 168.7 millimetres during the period.
Saskatoon Forecast
Today
6 degrees was where Saskatoon started the day with a moderate health risk due to smoke filtering back into the area.
Beautiful blue skies and sunshine were back, helping warm us up into the mid 20s before noon.
Another 30 degree day is on the way this afternoon as the upper ridge continues to funnel in the heat.
Tonight
Clear skies linger again overnight as temperatures dip down into low double digits.
Friday
The first week of school will end off on another hot note with nothing but blue skies and sunshine throughout the day.
Winds will pick up from the south up to 30 km/h with gusts upwards of 40 to 50 km/h at times, which will help warm us up to a daytime high a few degrees into the 30s.
Weekend
Sizzling 30 degree heat sticks around for one more day on Saturday as an approaching system kicks up some clouds with breezy conditions continuing.
Record highs into the weekend sit around 34 degrees for Saskatoon, so they may be a stretch to reach.
A cold front will sweep through mid-weekend, bringing with it a chance of showers late Saturday into Sunday with some lingering clouds likely Sunday before the sun kicks back in, with a high in the low-to-mid 20s.
Work Week Outlook
Sunshine returns to start the second week of school with daytime highs in the mid 20s until another system slides in mid-week, bringing in clouds, a chance of showers and dropping temperatures right back.
