Police are searching for an “armed and dangerous” suspect carrying a large hunting knife after a man was stabbed in an unprovoked attack while jogging in downtown Toronto Monday night.

Toronto police responded to a 911 call at 11:10 pm in the Dupont Street and Manning Avenue area.

Const. Allyson Douglas-Cook said a 25 year old man was jogging westbound on Dupont Street when a man approached him from behind and stabbed him in the back.

Paramedics transported the man to hospital where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries. The suspect escaped the area and police said he was last seen in the Manning Avenue and London Street area carrying the knife.

The suspect is described by police as white, approximately 55 to 60 years old, with a stocky build, buzzed haircut approximately one to two inches long. He was last seen wearing a white or pale coloured dress shirt tucked into dark pants.

Residents who live in the neighbourhood who did not want to be identified told Global News they were shocked by the news and heard people screaming on the street at the time of the alleged attack.

If spotted, police are warning the suspect not to approach him but to instead contact police immediately.
