It’s been more than two months since Nadia Gonzales was killed – however police say the investigation into her murder remains active.
Wayne Andrew Bruce, 60, was arrested Tuesday morning at an apartment on Hastings Drive in Dartmouth.
He was arraigned in court Wednesday on a number of charges connected to Gonzales’ death including first-degree murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He has also been charged with other weapons-related charges that police say are not linked to the homicide.
“These investigations are very complicated,” said Cst. Dianne Penfound, Halifax Regional Police.
“The investigators felt at this point it was appropriate to charge Mr. Bruce and he was brought before the courts.”

Gonzales, 35, was found unresponsive inside the hallway of an apartment building located at 33 Hastings Drive on the evening of June 16. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The following day, Halifax police officers arrested five people – three of the individuals were later released without charges.
Calvin Maynard Sparks, 23, of Dartmouth was charged with a slew of offences including first degree murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Samanda Rose Ritch ,19, of Halifax was also charged with first degree murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

All three accused made brief court appearances on Wednesday.
They have each been remanded to the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Dartmouth and a no contact order was put in place by the courts.
“They’re not to have communication or contact with one another. That alerts officials there that they’re not to be housed together, as well as those individuals not to contact one another,” said Robert Kennedy, Crown Attorney.

Bruce, Ritch and Sparks are scheduled to make their next court appearance on Oct. 5. At that time, it’s expected dates will be set for a preliminary inquiry into the matter.
“There’s always unforeseen circumstances that seem to occur but that’s the intention at this stage,” said Kennedy.
Investigators have not released how Gonzales was killed or what the motive behind the murder may have been.
Police say they are still working on the Gonzales case and aren’t ruling out that additional charges could be laid.
“It’s a possibility,” said Penfound. “The investigation is still ongoing.”
