The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) is exploring the idea of building a solid waste drop-off location in the city’s Mission area.

Peter Rotheisler, RDCO’s manager of environment services, told Global News that the idea has been talked about for years and is now being explored further.

Rotheisler said a drop-off location would make it much more convenient for residents in the Misison area, who currently have to travel 30 minutes across town to get to the landfill in Glenmore.

It’s expected the new drop-off location would also help reduce long lines at the Glenmore site.

RDCO staff are working on identifying potential sites before bringing the proposal to the regional district board.

If approved, this would be the RDCO’s 4th solid waste drop-off site in the region.
