Motorcyclist seriously injured after collision with SUV in downtown Toronto

A 28-year-old motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a collision with a SUV in downtown Toronto early Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 5 a.m. on Yonge Street at the corner of Elm Street between Gerrard Street and Gould Street.

Toronto police said the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Yonge when he collided into a SUV going northbound attempting to make a left-hand turn on Elm.

The motorcycle ended up hitting the side of a Pizza Pizza restaurant. The 52-year-old driver of the SUV was not injured.

Toronto EMS said the victim on the motorcycle was rushed to a trauma centre with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the collision to come forward.
