Toronto fire says the damage caused by a five-alarm fire at a restaurant in downtown Toronto is estimated to be around $2 million.
Firefighters responded to the blaze around 1:15 p.m. Friday, at Ryu’s Noodle Bar located at 33 Baldwin Street, near Dundas Street West and McCaul Street.
More than 40 fire trucks were called in to battle the flames, which officials said spread to the walls of the building after starting in the attic.
A family of three and their dog were forced from their apartment after it was heavily damaged.
No injuries have been reported and the restaurant was evacuated shortly after the fire spread.
Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg said four buildings are affected as the properties share a common roof. He said there is structural instability in the roof, but at this point there is no concern about the buildings.
The fire was initially classified as a three-alarm but quickly escalated to a five-alarm. As of 4 p.m., officials downgraded it to a two-alarm fire.
Toronto Fire are the only ones investigating as of right now, the Ontario Fire Marshall has not been called in.
The cause of the fire is still unknown.
Toronto Fire Services said it’s looking to speak with anyone who has information.
Baldwin Street between Huron and McCaul streets and Beverley Street between Dundas Street West and College Street were closed to traffic.
