The Great One will be headlining a gala dinner in Hamilton this fall.

The Carmen’s Group has announced that it will be presenting an evening with Wayne Gretzky on Monday, Oct. 16.

Tickets will sell for $200 and proceeds will support a pair of children’s organizations.

Food4Kids is a nutrition program that supports more than 1,000 kids at 115 local schools.

Jumpstart aims to give more children the opportunity to participate in minor hockey.

P.J. Mercanti, CEO of Carmen’s Group, says they are happy to support both charities.

He adds that “tying nutrition for children and sports for children was a nice community opportunity.”

An evening with Wayne Gretzky will coincide with the 30th anniversary of Canada’s 6-5 win over Russia in the 1987 Canada Cup, played in Hamilton, when Gretzky’s pass to Mario Lemieux secured the victory.

Mercanti believes the event also dovetails nicely with Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations, since “when you think of the sport of hockey, you think of Wayne Gretzky.”
