It’s one of the largest commercial modular construction companies in North America but now the company has announced it’s laying off virtually all of its workers at its Penticton facility.
Britco has off-site construction facilities throughout B.C., Canada and Texas, USA.
Britco builds modular construction facilities for a wide range of customers, including the oil industry.
In an e-mail sent to Global News, Britco’s Marketing and Communications manager Meghan Cairns says the plant’s production is being curtailed due to a lack of work at the moment. The e-mail goes on to say that the objective is to build an order backlog and re-open with the flexibility to build both homes and commercial projects efficiently.

It’s not known how many workers have lost their jobs but Britco did at one point employ 170 workers at its Penticton plant back in 2013.
Cairns says the company has kept a few employees on hand to make some changes to the production line configuration of the plant in anticipation of future work.
“We hope to be able to call back our Penticton employees in the future based on market need,” Cairns said. “We are still committed to being part of the Penticton community,”
