Police said officers were called to Caster Avenue, near Weston Road and Highway 7, just before 4:12 p.m. Tuesday with reports of the sounds of gunshots.

Police arrived on scene and located a woman without vital signs. A man was also found in non-life-threatening condition.

The woman, identified as Mila Barberi, was later pronounced dead in hospital.

“We do believe the two victims were known to each other,” Const. Laura Nicolle told reporters on Wednesday. “However I can’t speak to the specific relationship at this stage.”

Police said both individuals were shot outside an electrical supply store and that it was too early in the investigation to determine if the woman was the intended targeted.

Police said they are looking for a male suspect, approximately 6’2″ tall, weighing 250 lbs and wearing a dark jacket. Police said his face was covered when the shooting took place.

Authorities are also looking for a dark-coloured Jeep Grand Cherokee which was seen fleeing the area.

“We are actively looking for anyone who has any information on this vehicle or anyone who was in the area at the time who heard or witnessed that may be suspicious,” Nicolle said.

The identity of the 40-year-old male victim has not been released.

A description on Barberi’s Facebook page indicates she was employed as a veterinary technician at Napa Valley Animal Hospital in Woodbridge.

Several messages of condolence have appeared on her timeline since the news of her death.
