Environment Canada has issued a winter travel advisory for the Greater Toronto Area due to heavy snowfall and blowing snow in parts of the region on Thursday.

The weather advisory is for:

  • Toronto
  • Hamilton
  • Halton-Peel
  • Pickering
  • Oshawa
  • Southern Durham
  • Vaughan
  • Richmond Hill
  • Markham

A snow squall watch is currently in effect for parts of southern Ontario including York-Durham, Dufferin-Innisfil and Waterloo-Wellington.

The weather office said whiteout conditions may occur at times. Local snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 cm or more are possible.

Snow squall watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibility.
