Environment Canada is predicting a messy start to the weekend as a large weather system is expected to bring a mix of snow and rain beginning Friday night.

A special weather statement has been issued for parts of the Greater Toronto Area and much of southern Ontario.

The weather office said “significant precipitation” will begin Friday night and continue into Saturday bringing snow which may mix or change to rain.

However, in some regions, the snow could also continue into Saturday night.
